It’s 2017, and whilst many businesses have already made the move; there are still some organisations that are holding back from implementing a cloud solution into their organisation.

Adopting a cloud solution is the new normal for most businesses. With the cloud computing market forecast to surpass $200 billion by 2018; it’s clear to many that the benefits do, in fact, outweigh the drawbacks.

“What is cloud computing and why is it becoming so popular?”

Third-party vendors host cloud software for individuals and organisations and can be accessed through the Internet. With a cloud solution, you’ll often find that the third-party vendor maintains the software for you. Maintenance can include: backups, updates and monitoring.

Within the different types of cloud service models that are available (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), Clinked falls under the category of SaaS (software-as-a-service); a cloud delivery model that is predicted to overtake traditional software product delivery by a considerable amount, growing nearly 5x faster than the traditional software market.

In short, the growth in popularity for cloud computing is influenced by the fact that businesses are becoming aware of the benefits that a cloud solution has over more traditional methods, such as standalone software.

“What are the benefits of implementing a cloud solution?”

Cloud solutions aim to help organisations to improve their daily business processes; whether that’s by increasing flexibility for employees and clients, or by having the ability to have tighter control over file sharing and storing. Also, part of the appeal of a cloud solution such as a collaboration tool or client portal; is the fact that you won’t necessarily need to implement hundreds of different applications to meet your different business needs.

In turn, this leads to reduced costs and increased efficiency for organisations that choose to introduce a cloud solution; both of which are desirable for businesses trying to expand within competitive industries, such as accounting or manufacturing.

And what’s more, despite the fact that there are some concerns about the security of cloud solutions; (and that it still remains a barrier to implementation) the concern has decreased from 2014, and worry about public cloud security maintenance is becoming less extreme – according to a report by IDG Enterprise. For organisations that require additional steps to protecting their data, private and hybrid cloud solutions are worthwhile options to consider.

“When should I begin to introduce a cloud solution into my business?”

There has never been a better time to deploy a cloud solution, than in 2017. In fact, today, 70% of organisations have at least one app in the cloud. Many opt for a cloud solution because of its ease of implementation, meaning that you can literally begin to introduce your software straight away. In fact, to ensure cloud technology investments are used to their fullest extent, enterprise organisations have even added new roles and functions to their business including cloud architects/engineers, cloud systems administrators and security architects/engineers; says an IDG Enterprise report.

So, if your New Years resolution has been to get more organised, then perhaps a cloud solution could be the place to start.
